Zephaniah
The Lord will gather all things from the earth and disperse the wicked, extending His hand over Judah and Jerusalem to punish those who worship other gods. The day of the Lord is near, bringing wrath, tribulation, and anguish, testing the strong and punishing the wicked. The Philistines, Moab, Ammon, Ethiopians, and Assyria will be judged and left desolate, while the coastline will be a resting place for the remnant of Judah. Jerusalem is condemned for its corruption, but the Lord remains just and will bring judgment, promising a future day of resurrection and restoration, when He will take away the arrogant and leave a poor and needy people who will hope in His name, and the remnant of Israel will be innocent and truthful.
Chapter 1
The Lord will gather all things from the face of the earth, including man and animals, and disperse the wicked before Him. He will extend His hand over Judah and Jerusalem, dispersing the remnant of Baal and those who worship other gods. The day of the Lord is near, a day of wrath, tribulation, and anguish, in which the strong will be tested and the wicked will be punished, with their wealth unable to save them from God's wrath.
Chapter 2
The Lord warns the people to seek Him and live justly, for the day of His wrath is near. The Philistines will be destroyed, and their cities will be desolate, but the coastline will be a resting place for the remnant of Judah. Moab and Ammon will be punished for their arrogance and blasphemy, and will be left desolate. The Lord will also judge the Ethiopians, Assyria, and other nations, reducing their strength and leaving them desolate.
Chapter 3
The Lord condemns Jerusalem for its corruption and refusal to heed discipline, with leaders like roaring lions and prophets who are crazed and faithless. Despite this, the Lord remains just and will bring judgment in the morning, and though He has dispersed the nations, Jerusalem's dwelling place will not perish. The Lord promises a future day of resurrection and judgment, when He will restore a chosen people to serve Him and will take away the arrogant boasters, leaving a poor and needy people who will hope in His name. In that day, the remnant of Israel will be innocent and truthful, and the Lord will rejoice over Jerusalem with gladness and love.
