2 Peter

The apostle Peter writes to believers, emphasizing the importance of growing in faith through knowledge of God and Jesus Christ, and adding virtues such as virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity. He warns of false teachers who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, denying the Lord and bringing destruction upon themselves, and reminds believers to recall the words of the prophets and the apostles, warning them of scoffers who will question the promise of Christ's return. Peter encourages believers to live holy lives, looking forward to the coming of the day of God, when the heavens and earth will be dissolved and replaced with new heavens and a new earth, and to be diligent to be found in peace, without spot, and blameless, continuing to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Chapter 1
The apostle Peter writes to believers, emphasizing the importance of growing in faith through knowledge of God and Jesus Christ, and adding virtues such as virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity. Those who lack these qualities are blind and have forgotten their purification from sin. Peter encourages believers to make their calling and election sure, and to remember the truth of the gospel, which he and other eyewitnesses have seen and heard, including the transfiguration of Jesus Christ. He also emphasizes the importance of prophecy and scripture, which is not open to private interpretation, but rather is the result of holy men speaking as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Chapter 2
False teachers will secretly introduce destructive heresies, denying the Lord and bringing destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their corrupt ways, and through greed, they will exploit others with false words. God will judge these false teachers, just as He judged the angels who sinned and the wicked people of the old world, including Sodom and Gomorrah. Those who follow their corrupt desires will be punished, while the godly will be delivered from temptation.
Chapter 3
The apostle reminds believers to recall the words of the prophets and the apostles, warning them of scoffers who will question the promise of Christ's return. These scoffers are willingly ignorant of God's power in creation and judgment, and they will be punished when the day of the Lord comes. Believers, however, should live holy lives, looking forward to the coming of the day of God, when the heavens and earth will be dissolved and replaced with new heavens and a new earth. They should be diligent to be found in peace, without spot, and blameless, and continue to grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
