2 Timothy
Paul expresses gratitude for Timothy's faith and reminds him to stir up the gift of God within him, not being ashamed of the gospel. He shares his own suffering for the gospel and asks Timothy to hold fast to sound words and keep the good thing committed to him by the Holy Ghost. Paul instructs Timothy to be strong in the grace of Christ, endure hardship, and strive lawfully, remembering Jesus Christ's resurrection and the power of the word of God. He warns of perilous times with self-centered individuals who deny the power of godliness, and emphasizes the importance of scripture for doctrine and instruction in righteousness. Paul charges Timothy to preach the word, reprove, and exhort, and reflects on his own life, stating he has fought a good fight and is ready to be offered, asking Timothy to come to him soon and warning him about Alexander the coppersmith.
Chapter 1
Paul expresses his gratitude to God for Timothy, recalling his genuine faith that was first seen in his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice. Paul reminds Timothy to stir up the gift of God within him and not be ashamed of the gospel, as God has given them a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Paul shares that he suffers for the gospel but is not ashamed, knowing that he has trusted in a God who can keep what has been committed to Him. Paul asks Timothy to hold fast to the sound words he has heard and to keep the good thing committed to him by the Holy Ghost.
Chapter 2
Be strong in the grace of Christ Jesus and commit the things you have heard to faithful men who can teach others. Endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ, untangled from the affairs of life, and strive lawfully to obtain the fruits of your labor. Remember that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead and that the word of God is not bound, even in suffering. If you are dead with Christ, you will live with Him, and if you suffer, you will reign with Him. Study to show yourself approved unto God, shun profane babblings, and flee youthful lusts, following righteousness, faith, charity, and peace.
Chapter 3
In the last days, perilous times will come, characterized by people who are self-centered, proud, and disobedient. These individuals will have a form of godliness but deny its power, and they will lead others astray with their false teachings. Those who live godly lives will suffer persecution, while evil men will continue to deceive and be deceived. The scriptures, which are inspired by God, are profitable for doctrine, reproof, and instruction in righteousness, and can make one wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Chapter 4
Paul charges Timothy to preach the word, reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine, as people will eventually turn away from sound doctrine and seek false teachings. Paul reflects on his own life, stating he has fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith, and is now ready to be offered. He asks Timothy to come to him soon, as he is lonely, and warns him about Alexander the coppersmith who has done him much evil. Paul expresses his confidence in the Lord's deliverance and preservation, and ends with greetings to various individuals.
