Haggai
The Lord spoke through Haggai, rebuking the people for neglecting the temple's repair and instead focusing on their own homes, resulting in poverty and scarcity. In response to the Lord's instruction to rebuild the temple, the leaders and people obeyed and began working on it. The prophet Haggai encouraged Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the people to be strong and work on the temple, promising God's presence and glory, and that the latter house would be greater than the former, bringing peace.
Chapter 1
The Lord spoke through Haggai, rebuking the people for prioritizing their own homes over rebuilding the temple, which had been in disrepair. As a result of their neglect, the people experienced poverty and scarcity, despite their hard work. The Lord instructed them to rebuild the temple, promising to take pleasure in it and be glorified. In response, the leaders and people obeyed the Lord's voice and began working on the temple.
Chapter 2
The prophet Haggai urges Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the people to be strong and work on rebuilding the temple, as God is with them and will fill the house with glory. God promises that the latter house will be greater than the former and will bring peace. Haggai also addresses the issue of ritual purity, pointing out that the people's uncleanness has affected their offerings. God then promises to bless the people from the day the temple's foundation was laid, and to overthrow the kingdoms of the heathen, making Zerubbabel a signet, or symbol, of God's chosen servant.
